Home|Project Noah|  The story so far

What happened so far and what still needs doing

The ISSA board ahs asked the German co-worker Heiko Hillmer to take up the Noah project on our behalf.

During ISSA Baltic shanty festivals, ISSA meetings and various choir events, people were asked to donate money, fund raising concerts wer held and money was remitted to a special bank account for the Noah. This enabled us to buy new spare parts to repace broken ones.

The NOAH has been given a free berth in Delfzijl for two winterws. Various volunteers of different choirs have been on board to do odd jobs to get the ship in working order.

Bilge pumps and heating have been repaired, the bunks got individual lights, the sanitary equipment and water tank were fixed, the main mast was treated with various layers of oil,the rotten mizzen mast was repplaced by shanty men, various holes were repaired and a lot of sanding and painting was done. The binks aret fitted with new and better quality mattresses and the benches have been refurbished.

- What is to come :

Which generator will break down? What damage will suddenly present itself? With old ships you can expect anything. Urgently a new launch would be needed; even a used one would be welcome! There is still a lot of painting work to be done. on deck as well as below and for maintenance we will be needing money endlessly.
